Hermes was initially a development project (100% owned), located approximately 65 kilometres southwest of the Company's Plutonic Gold mine, 800 kilometres north east of Perth, in Western Australia. The Company commenced development of this 100% owned project in July 2017.
The first stage of development was the construction of the haul road to connect the Hermes orebodies to the mill at the Plutonic Mine, where the ore will be processed. In October 2017, pre-stripping operations were initiated at Hermes’ Trapper pit. Initial processing of mineralization commenced on schedule in late December 2017 and commercial production was declared in March 2018.
The Hermes deposit was mined as a conventional open pit operation. The contribution of the ore from Hermes allowed Superior Gold to reach its targeted annual production of at least 100,000 ounces of gold. Mining activities concluded in May 2019 but processing of Hermes ore continued until the end of 2019.
The next phase of development at Hermes will encompass optimizing the Hermes and Hermes South project as a combined operation.
